“I applaud you for pursuing your most authentic life.”
Welcome to the start of your journey! I am here to listen and to guide you where necessary. Together, we will create a personalized plan to support your mental health, wellness and bright future. My goal is to help you to become the best version of yourself, and to achieve this I use methods such as meditation, yoga, goal setting, CBT and/or mindfulness.
You can do this; you just have to believe in yourself!
I have a B.A in Criminology and Criminal Justice with Concentration in Law from Carleton University and am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CPRO). In addition I am a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and hold a diploma in Social Service Work from Algonquin College. I am committed to ongoing learning and professional development and have successfully completed a multitude of courses/seminars in the areas of: addiction, mental health, and criminal justice, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy and Resiliency Based Therapy. My training is supported by over 15 years of experience in the field of psychotherapy as well as extensive experience of working with mental health, addictions, and case management.
I am driven to support your journey because of my own personal experiences – I know what it feels like. I am a first-generation Canadian, whose parents immigrated to Canada from India. Growing up, I had my feet in two cultures and I struggled to find a place and a role in my community. In the small-town where I grew up, I was one of the only two people of colour. Because of this I felt isolated, alone and different. As a South Asian female, it was challenging to navigate daily life. I wanted to fulfill my cultural and familial responsibilities, but I also wanted to fit in with my peer group. I only made the choice to move away to university after an internal battle that caused anxiety, guilt and panic. For years, it felt as if I had two identities and that I was not being my authentic self.
Now, I am a person who loves who I am. My past divided commitments and responsibilities gave me valuable first-hand experience of the struggles one can have with self-esteem, purpose, identity and relationships. My ability to negotiate and overcome this personal chaos and crisis has helped me to become a better parent and partner. Today, I not only teach my children to respect their heritage and culture but also to pursue their individuality. My life experiences have shaped me and I hope that my unique perspective will help bring insight and compassion to how I support you, on your unique journey.
I believe you and your family are unique. For this reason, you require a specific plan of care to support your particular healing and growth process. I use a client-centred approach that is supported by evidence-based interventions. Your plan of care will focus on goals and resiliency so that you can obtain your desires. I also incorporate holistic techniques, such as meditation and reiki to achieve wellness. I believe that talk therapy is just one step in the healing/recovery process, which also needs active goals, dreams, hopes and the feeling of being engaged within one’s community/family. It is my job to help you navigate your current circumstances and to guide you to overcome the barriers you face; such as, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family/relationship issues, communication/emotional concerns, school/career issues and possible feelings of hopelessness.
We do not get “do overs” in life! I applaud you for wanting your most authentic life and will help you to achieve it.
